President’s Message
Welcome to the Niagara Heritage Quilters’ Guild website. We have been in the Niagara Region for over 40 years. What does the word “Heritage” mean and why is it included in our name? Heritage is what we have inherited from a richknowledge of quilters, and we value that knowledge today and want to pass it on to future generations. Heritage does not mean staying in the past styles of colours, patterns, and methods. It means celebrating them, using them, and developing them. Fabric choices, quilting styles and tools are always changing, but our heritage does not. At ourmonthly meetings, we are privileged to hear from various guest quilters who share their knowledge of quilting. We are always inspired by their expertise, stories of growth, and their trunk shows. We see a rich heritage of quilting styles, from traditional, contemporary to modern quilts. Our members also have an opportunity to share their quilts during the show and tell time at our meetings. We see a large variety of quilt styles, including intricate piecing, applique, thread painting, english paper piecing, foundation paper piecing, curved piecing, irregular borders, modern designs, sashiko, landscape quilts, etc. There is always encouragement and appreciation being voiced at our meetings and we always learn from each other.
If you are new to the area and interested in Quilting, join us on the fourth Wednesday of the month from September – November and January – April, May is for members only. We meet at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 613, 141 Hwy#20E, Fonthill, ON.
