Workshop – Landscape with Textiles and Stitching by Toni Major

Landscape with Textiles and Stitching

Participants will create a textile version of a favourite landscape photo using fabrics, fusible, stabilizer and thread painting, free motion stitching and/or hand-stitching and any desired embellishments.  Materials are provided by participants

Supply List for Landscape Art Quilt Workshop:

Finished Piece:  8 x 10”

Need to bring:

For inspiration bring a favourite landscape photograph and/or sketch.  Any season!

  • the items already listed on the NHQG website for all workshops
  • fabrics (commercial or hand-dyed) of nature’s many colours from your stash that would work for components of your photograph (use your imagination, colours do not need to match exactly and small patterned fabric work well!)
  • stabilizer such as Pellon stabilizers (I like extra firm) or heavy interfacing (will be cut 10 x 12”)
  • fusible such as Mistyfuse
  • quilt batting if “puffier texture” desired
  • glue stick (can be from dollar store) if desired, for temporary placement of fabric
  • cutting mat and rotary cutter
  • fabrics for backing and binding (optional, other methods of finishing will be discussed)

Embellishment options such as

  • beads, wool rovings, felt bits, ribbons, yarns, buttons, threads
  • anything that can be stitched or glued on
